Donut Falls
Description: hike up a nice trail to base of the falls, where you must scramble 100′ up the rock pile to the falls, which tumbles through a large hole worn through limestone to a pool in a small cave. There’s room for several people to stoop and waddle into the cave at once.
Bring a garbage bag to pack out everyone else’s garbage! It seems people abandon their water bottles once they realize how short the hike is.
Distance: .8 mile one-way (if the gate to the dirt road is open – double this in winter)
Elevation gain: 350′
Steepness: almost flat
Notable Features: gorgeous little waterfall, plus many other small falls nearby.
Amenities: Pit toilet at parking area.
Fees: None.
When to go: Popular year round, but watch your step when it gets icy in winter!
Directions: Drive about 9 miles up BCC, then turn right/south on FR019 at Mill D to the parking area and hike up a gentle trail to the falls. Drive .8 mile to the trailhead.
Mountains, lakes and other features accessed: None. A road parallels the trail to hiker’s right/west (and which runs alongside the pleasant little creek for a while) that continues a ways higher up the drainage and forms a large loop there.
Connecting & cross trails: None.
Great, relatively short hike. Be careful on the slippery rocks! People sometimes get hurt.
